A Man in the Road

A sign for where pedestrians may cross the road

He crossed the street.

The car came,

Too fast,

And hit him—

Killing him on impact.

He was thinking of nothing in particular,

Reaching for his phone

When,

He crossed the street,

And was killed on impact.

He was thinking:

He should visit his mother soon,

He hadn’t seen her in a while;

Then the car came, Too fast.

As he reached for his phone to make the plans,

He didn’t see it coming.

The car drove too fast,

Killing him on impact

They would’ve visited her that weekend;

That weekend,

He would’ve brought them to see his mother,

His two girls,

His wife of ten years.

But he was hit.

A too fast car leaves

His two girls

Without him.

Husband and father,

Killed on impact.

A life of so many years,

A unique life,

Ended on impact.

Killed before he could place a call,

He died too fast.

Too fast to say his final words;

To say I love you;

To reflect on his life;

To look up and see Death driving,

Too fast.

Instead, he smiled as he grabbed the phone.

The fateful car blared its horn,

Too late,

Hitting just one man,

But impacting so many.
